Elections
| Below are descriptions of all the available positions - if you want to stand, please email "president -at- yorkunikarting -dot- co -dot- uk". You can stand for more than one position - elections will be held in the order the positions are listed below (President will be elected first, and so on.)
The deadline for applications is 3pm Thursday Week 3, with the elections being held that evening. Any additional applications for positions made during the evening will be at the committee's discretion. This page will be updated with those who are standing as time progresses. President Put simply, the President's job is to run the club. Committee experience is essential, because you'll have to be able to perform just about any job on the committee. You'll chair the weekly committee meetings and organise the weekly karting sessions, but it's just as important to be a visible figurehead for the club, particularly in the first sessions of the new academic year. You'll need to keep up to date with goings on within YorkSport, and maintain relations with other universities to bring on Inter-Uni competitions. Elected: Mike O'Neill Treasurer The Treasurer has to draw up all the budgets for the year, and organise subsidies and petrol money. This can be quite a skilled job, but you will be shown the ropes by the outgoing treasurer before you take over. You also get to look after the cashbox... You will also help organise & run events throughout the year. Elected: Sam Welch Vice President The Vice President's job is pretty similar to the President's, but with diminished responsibilities. Committee experience here is preferable, but not necessary. The position generally involves doing various tasks as delegated by the President, and also chairing meetings in the President's absence. Your roles may include booking transport, taking care of merchandise and racewear orders. Elected: Sam Hutson Webmaster The Webmaster's job is to keep the website up to date. You have to post up race results weekly and keep an eye on the forum. Rick has developed a great website with lots of code hidden in its recesses, but he's always on hand to maintain the back end of the site. The Webmaster is only required to update the content, which can all be done through the website itself - no HTML skills necessary. Of course, the more you can do on the site, the better... You will also help organise & run events throughout the year. Elected: Jamie Garside Social Secretary The Social Secretary is responsible for organising socials, both traditional and innovative, to help the club members get to know each other off track. A good knowledge of the social scene in York is a real plus for this job, as is a love of alcohol naturally. You will also help organise & run karting events throughout the year. Elected: Paul Braham Beginners Rep The Beginners Rep acts as a bridge between new members and the Committee. You will be involved in general Committee business - attending Committee meetings once a week, helping to organise and run events, and any other tasks that may come up. The Beginners Rep often organises events that are aimed at beginners or new club members - generally indoor practice sessions. Elected: Andrew Gilmore |
